The programme can be taken as a one-year full-time or two-year part-time programme. There are three compulsory elements: the core module applicable to the chosen pathway; a skills module in research methodology; and a 20,000 word dissertation. In addition you will take two other elements: a language module in Greek or Latin, taught at all levels from beginners to post-degree advanced level; and an option chosen from a range of choices designated for each pathway. The MA can be taken as independent programmes or as the first year of a four-year programme leading to the PhD.

This programme is available with a choice of five specialised pathways which are based on the research expertise of the Department:

* Ancient Drama and Society
* Food and Culture in Antiquity
* Hellenistic Culture
* Roman Myth and History
* Alternative Histories Through Art and Archaeology
