The MA Archaeology and Heritage Management programme aims to provide a theoretical and practically orientated vocational course of study for students from a wide variety of academic and professional backgrounds. Students will be able to opt for a theoretical or practical bias, or both, with the content focussing enquiry towards the exploratory
dimensions of Archaeology and Cultural Heritage Management in international, national and regional contexts,.
Emphasis will be placed on critical analysis, and on engagement with multi-disciplinary debates on various heritage and archaeological issues and in varied heritage contexts. A series of analytical approaches will be encouraged, and students will be expected to show a fluency in using these.
In addition, the programme aims to:
- offer a high quality Masters-level education in advanced archaeological and heritage management studies.
- give students an advanced grounding in the main themes of current archaeology and cultural heritage management including new developments in archive digitalisation and creation of virtual exhibition sites.
- offer a coherent curriculum, balancing core elements with a optional choice of specialist topics to suite students' individual aspirations and requirements
- develop students' proficiency in the subject-specific and research skills required in modern archaeology and cultural heritage management through extended practical engagement with primary data, conceptual understanding and competence in core academic and personal and key skills, providing a basis for career progression within the academic world and beyond.
- expose students to different teaching and assessment methods within an appropriate learning environment , supported by feedback and monitoring.
- encourage graduates to become useful, productive and questioning members of society.
- provide students the opportunity to develop their self-study skills through work related learning and/or individual research
- offer those students who wish and are appropriately qualified the opportunity to undertake a more substantial piece of research, which could act as preparation for doctoral-level work.
