These pages relate to the full-time MSc Management with Human Resources. We also offer MSc Professional Development (Human Resource Management) on a part-time basis which has been designed to meet the requirements of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD). This course is designed for those of you that would like to work and study at the same time gain the qualifications appropriate to professional membership of the CIPD.
Specialist units explore issues including employment relations and law and the development of people as a resource. These are complemented by core management units which concentrate on the management of people, marketing and strategy as well as contemporary issues within the business world.
This framework ensures that our postgraduate students have specialist, expert skills, and a true appreciation of the crucial role of HR within the wider sphere of an organisation.
This unit aims to provide you with a secure foundation in the concepts and practice of management and leadership in the context of the changing nature of work and business in the international arena. A critically analytical and evaluative approach will be taken to explore these areas in a range of organisational scenarios, to develop a range of conceptual and practical managerial tools.

The unit aims to explore and analyse the premise that in order to be successful, organisations need to gain a good understanding of their customers’ requirements and to seek to achieve organisational objectives through the satisfaction of their customers’ needs and wants. The unit will also look at marketing against the backdrop of corporate strategy development, and establish the linkage between the two activities.

The central aim of this unit is to provide you with theoretical and conceptual understanding of two important specialist areas of knowledge and expertise in the theory and practice of HRM: Contemporary Employment Relations (CER) and Employment and Labour Law (ELL). With additional input in understanding the Data Protection Act, Access to Medical Reports and Heath Records.

This unit aims to develop your knowledge and understanding of the theory and practice of people resourcing and development, to enable you to demonstrate how people resourcing and development (PR&D) activities can effectively contribute to achievement of corporate strategic goals. You should be cognisant of the impact of the changing environment of work and business on these activities, and the internal and external contexts in which these functions operate. Throughout the unit, the role of the HR professional in facilitating the relationship between PR&D and organisational effectiveness will be critically examined. Particular emphasis will be placed on developing the knowledge and skills that you need, to fulfil this role effectively.

The Research Project provides you with an opportunity to undertake a significant piece of self-managed research in a relevant area of particular interest.
