Physiotherapy at QMU has a well established teaching profile at both pre and post registration levels. QMU’s physiotherapy courses have been established for many years and close partnerships with clinical centres throughout Scotland, and their research, ensures that teaching programmes are relevant and up-to-date.

The pre registration programme develops students academically as well as providing them with the skills and abilities necessary for entry into the profession. Graduates from these programmes have a strong employment record and gain clinical and research work in the UK, Europe, Canada, America, Australia and New Zealand. a major component of the course, comprising more than 1,000 hours of study at clinical sites throughout Scotland.

Graduates from the course will be distinctive in their ability to synthesise evidence from current practice and research to develop an in-depth critical knowledge and understanding of the physiotherapy profession. Furthermore they will be able to demonstrate a critical awareness of current issues within the provision of health and social care and will be capable of demonstrating leadership in both personal and professional development.


Contents

There is a strong emphasis on student directed learning. A variety of assessment methods are used including exams, coursework, presentations and practical exams. Practice-based learning is a major component of the course, comprising more than 1,000 hours of study at clinical sites throughout Scotland.

In Year One, you will complete a two-week foundation placement in Semester One and two six-week placements over the summer. In Year Two you will undertake one six-week placement in semester two and one six-week and one four-week placement over the summer. Placements will take place throughout Scotland.

  • Applied Physiology for Physiotherapy
  • Professional Studies for Allied Health Professionals
  • Neuromusculoskeletal Studies 1 & 2
  • Neurological Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy
  • Practice-based learning
  • Cardiorespiratory Physiotherapy Management
  • Current and Emerging Roles within Physiotherapy Practice
  • Research Methods for Health Professionals
  • Practice-based learning
  • Dissertation (MSc only)

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Requirements

UK honours degree or equivalent at second class level or better in any discipline.

Students personal statement should demonstrate their aptitude for the profession and any relevant career exploration undertaken.

A satisfactory criminal records check will be required.

Minimum education level: Bachelors degree

Proficiency in English: IELTS 7.0 or equivalent with no individual component score below 6.5

Accreditation

On completion, students will be eligible to apply for registration with the Health Professions Council as a Physiotherapist. Students will also be eligible to apply for membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.
