Location of Queen Mary, University of London

This MA is a dynamic programme of study delivered by outstanding academics and supported by the United Kingdom's premier intellectual forum for the study of contemporary British history, government and politics, the Mile End Group. It draws on Queen Mary's national and international reputation for excellence in British history established over 15 years ago by Lord Hennessy and the late Professor John Ramsden.

Lord Hennessy is now joined by another generation of modern and contemporary British historians who make the School of History an unparalleled centre for the study of Britain's recent past. The new MA offers you the opportunity to be taught by specialists at the leading edge of their fields and it also enables you to be a part of the Mile End Group's highly acclaimed activities with its unique ties to Whitehall, Parliament and industry. You will study British history from the early twentieth century to the present and develop an advanced understanding of historical approaches and research methods.

This MA is ideal preparation for those with ambitions to progress to doctoral research in modern and contemporary British history. The School of History has a very strong track record in PhD supervision in modern and contemporary British history and in securing doctoral funding for its best students.
