THIS INNOVATIVE COURSE - THE ONLY ONE IN SCOTLAND - WILL PROVIDE YOU WITH A THEORETICAL UNDERPINNING OF PODIATRIC SURGERY. THIS WILL PROVIDE PODIATRISTS WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO SPECIALISE IN SURGERY.
Podiatric surgery has developed rapidly over the last 15 years as a post-registration professional development and provides the podiatrist working within the NHS or private practice with the opportunity to progress their career in the surgical route of podiatry. This course is a collaborative initiative offered in partnership by Queen Margaret University and Glasgow Caledonian University.
This programme is approved by the Royal Colleges of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and Edinburgh and the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists. The taught elements of this course are delivered equally at Glasgow Caledonian University´s campus in Glasgow city centre and Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh.
Careers
This course will provide the theoretical underpinning for those students wishing a career in podiatric surgery.
You will study four modules in Year One, although you may spread your study over a longer period of time. Successful completion of these 60 masters level credits confers eligibility to receive a university postgraduate certificate (PgCert) in the Theory of Podiatric Surgery, together with a Part A Primary Fellowship of the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists (SOCAP). In Year Two you will study a further 60 masters level credits. Successful completion of 120 masters level credits confers eligibility to receive a university postgraduate diploma (PgDip) in the Theory of Podiatric Surgery, together with a Part B Primary Fellowship of SOCAP. Successful completion of the PgDip confers the Primary Fellowship of the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists (SOCAP) and eligibility to apply for practical pupillage under the mentorship of a surgeon. Students may apply for surgical pupillage after completion of the PgDip in Theory of Podiatric Surgery (Part A Primary Fellowship). The qualification may be taken to MSc Theory of Podiatric Surgery by undertaking a Masters dissertation. The practical pupillage in surgery is not part of the academic programme of study and is not arranged by either university.

Teaching and Assessment
A range of student-centred learning methods including tutorials, seminars and experimental laboratory classes are utilised. Your performance will be assessed by course work, however, modules within the surgical route do require assessment by examination.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
Take testPostgraduate students registered on this named award will be Chiropodist/Podiatrists registered with the Health Professions Council (HPC). However the individual modules are available to health & social care professionals with an interest in the area. Candidates should have the relevant honours degree. Those with a professional diploma or unclassified degree should have at least two years professional experience.
Students whose first language is not English must provide evidence of English language proficiency of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent
