Theory of Podiatric Surgery – (M.Sc.)

You will study four modules in Year One, although you may spread your study over a longer period of time. Successful completion of these 60 masters level credits confers eligibility to receive a university postgraduate certificate (PgCert) in the Theory of Podiatric Surgery, together with a Part A Primary Fellowship of the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists (SOCAP). In Year Two you will study a further 60 masters level credits. Successful completion of 120 masters level credits confers eligibility to receive a university postgraduate diploma (PgDip) in the Theory of Podiatric Surgery, together with a Part B Primary Fellowship of SOCAP. Successful completion of the PgDip confers the Primary Fellowship of the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists (SOCAP) and eligibility to apply for practical pupillage under the mentorship of a surgeon. Students may apply for surgical pupillage after completion of the PgDip in Theory of Podiatric Surgery (Part A Primary Fellowship). The qualification may be taken to MSc Theory of Podiatric Surgery by undertaking a Masters dissertation. The practical pupillage in surgery is not part of the academic programme of study and is not arranged by either university.

Teaching and Assessment

A range of student-centred learning methods including tutorials, seminars and experimental laboratory classes are utilised. Your performance will be assessed by course work, however, modules within the surgical route do require assessment by examination.
