THIS COURSE IS PART OF THE NHS EDUCATION SCOTLANDPROJECT TO DEVELOP A FIT FOR PURPOSE PROGRAMME FOR PEOPLE WISHING TO WORK WITHIN PUBLIC HEALTH PRACTICE.

This course enables individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds to attain competency in public health practice. It facilitates the acquisition of knowledge, understanding and skills necessary for working in a range of different posts in public health, health promotion and health improvement activities. It also meets the skills for health competencies for Public Health Practice. One of the course´s key strengths is the focus on learning through workbased placements and projects. The course was developed in partnership with a wide range of employers in public health in Scotland and provides an excellent grounding for people in Scotland, the UK, Europe and the wider international market.

Careers

As a graduate of this course you will be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary for a career in the many and varied aspects of the new exciting field of public health, for example: public health policy making; health promotion specialists; health research and community healthdevelopment etc.
This course is suitable for all those currently involved, or who wish to be involved, in any aspect of public health. This course is relevant to the broad public health multidisciplinary workforce and it meets the public health professional practice needs of local authorities, NHS, and the voluntary sector.


Contents

The course is modular and can be studied on a full-time or part-time basis and as part of continuing professional development. The course is delivered using a wide variety of attendance and study modes and includes block weeks, WebCT distance learning, and practice placements. This is particularly beneficial for those in employment.

Teaching and Assessment

Teaching is comprised of a combination of lectures, seminars, workshops and on-line learning. In addition work-based learning is a crucial focus for the course. Assessment is varied and consists of portfolios, essays, debates, posters and presentations.

IELTS

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Requirements

Normally an honours degree in a relevant subject or relevant work experience with evidence of recent continuing professional development.

You are required to have a 6.0 IELTS score (and at least 5.5 in all levels) and 580 in TOEFL paper test and 237 in computer based test. If your primary language has been English you may be exempt the above test scores.
