The Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences programme is part of the Postgraduate Framework within the School of Health and Emergency Professions and offers a flexible opportunity for study. The image interpretation pathway is designed to provide you as a clinical practitioner with the skills and knowledge to meet service demands and advanced practice. The student body will be drawn mostly from radiographers although some modules will be suitable for other health professionals working with diagnostic medical images.
The programme is modular in structure. Modules are discrete packages of study, each assigned a credit value. A master's award requires 180 credits, but you may choose to finish your studies after completing 60 credits for a postgraduate certificate or 120 credits for a postgraduate diploma. The programme is available on a part-time basis with up to six years allowed for completion.
A combination of image interpretation modules, optional modules and research modules are available to you. The programme offers choice and flexibility, enabling you to tailor your studies to your own area of clinical practice.
Teaching methods
The delivery of modules will incorporate blended learning which aims to combine e-learning activities with campus based learning. You will, therefore, need to have access to a suitable personal computer and a good reliable Internet connection (broadband recommended). If you have any queries or need any additional support with IT skills, the school employs a dedicated e-technologist who will be pleased to help and advise you.
Assessment methods include objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs), clinical portfolios, case study presentations, oral presentations and written presentations.
