Why this course?

This course is designed for recent graduates of humanities and business-related disciplines with relevant experience of working in the cultural events sector. Festivals, conferences, exhibitions and events are the 'calling cards' of our cultural identity. They allow us to develop links between different cultures, businesses and people and create local, regional and national distinctiveness. This course is ideal if you want to further your career prospects in this exciting industry

Career opportunities

Within the UK alone it is estimated that there may be up to 25,000 festivals and events with a strong cultural dimension which attract audiences of over 500. Adding the increasing number of commercial events, it is clear that there is a substantial market for our graduates in the UK and globally.

"Extrapolating from recent IFEA surveys, the special events industry, worldwide, is now estimated to include over four to five million regularly re-occurring festivals and events." Steven Schmader, President of IFEA.

Many people employed in the festivals sector travel from one festival to another on three-four month contracts. Over and above that there are of course major sporting events such as the Olympics, or the commercial expos which can all provide employment opportunities.

Graduates from our Arts Management BA (Hons) regularly select events and festivals for their first job and amongst them are presently the Leicester Comedy Festival, Glastonbury Festival, Greenwich and Docklands Festival, Spitalfields Festival, the Thames Festival and event organisations such as Artichoke.
