The MSc Western Medical Acupuncture offers the chance to learn with other health professionals and will be of interest to GPs, hospital doctors, nurses and other Allied Health Professionals working in related disciplines.

Work placement

Teaching methods
The majority of the programme is delivered on-line using a variety of E-technologies. These include podcasts, streamed videos, Wikis, on-line class discussions, uploaded documents and presentations, quizzes and internet telephony. The programme is well supported by practicing Western medical acupuncturists and key opinion leaders in the field so that it maintains links with practice and the ability to reflect current trends and research in medical acupuncture.

Students are be encouraged to undertake independent study to supplement and consolidate what is being taught and considered within the modules. The course is intensive with a limited amount of direct teaching, and requires you to be self-directed in your learning. This postgraduate programme offers the opportunity for practicing acupuncturists to develop more specialist knowledge and for those with considerable clinical experience in this treatment modality to update and enhance their knowledge and skills.

IELTS

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Requirements

* Registration with a relevant professional body allied to medicine or health.
* Normally a first degree, in a related discipline. Applicants with evidence of equivalent professional development or academic proficiency will be considered.
* Evidence of completion of a recognised course in Western medical acupuncture (the BMAS Foundation Course or equivalent course). Students trained in traditional acupuncture techniques will also be considered.
* Employment in, or access to, and appropriate area of practice whilst enrolled on the programme.
* The English language requirement for this programme is, IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 580 or equivalent1.
* The appropriate visa status to study in the UK

If you already have a BMAS Diploma in Medical Acupuncture qualification you will be given credit and will not have to complete all of the modules.

You may be able to transfer existing credits from other Universities into this programme and should contact Marion Richardson when applying.
