The Programme concentrates on the multidisciplinary renewable energy sector and is a collaboration between researchers and educators from the Faculty of Mathematics and Science, the Faculty of Social Sciences and the School of Business and Economics.
Education
The Master’s Degree Programme in Renewable Energy provides education in the renewable and distributed energy production in order to promote the utilization of sustainable energy sources. The programme provides students with a thorough insight into sustainable renewable energy technologies and an understanding of socio-economic factors.
Research & Demonstrations
The Research Programme in Renewable Energy focuses on the development of distributed energy technologies and uses demonstration projects for promoting public awareness of renewable energy technologies. Projects involve municipalities, research institutes, companies and farms.
The MDP in Renewable Energy is a two-year programme, leading to a Master's degree and qualifying for doctoral studies. The extent of the Master's degree is 120 ECTS cr.
Study tracks
The MDP in Renewable Energy is a multidisciplinary program with teaching organized in Faculties of Mathematics and Science, Social Sciences and School of Business and Economics. For the Master's degree you can apply to one of the three study tracks with a major either in applied physics, chemistry, environmental science, philosophy, sociology, social science and policy or corporate environmental management:
* Technology: Applied Physics or Chemistry;
* Sustainable Bioenergy: Environmental Science;
* Socio-economics: Philosophy, Sociology, Social Science and Policy, or Corporate Environmental Management (CEM).
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Register Now!The Master´s Degree Programme in Renewable Energy is addressed to students who previously have studied physics, chemistry, environmental sciences, economics, social sciences, or technical studies. In order to complete the degree successfully the students should hold good basic knowledge in mathematics, physics and chemistry. If needed, these studies can be complemented through participating in the normal study programme of the Faculty of Mathematics and Science. Thesis work and special assignments on renewable energy topics will be supervised by the professors or the instructors whose area of research is closely related to the student´s previous studies. A substantial number of the theses and the special assignments will be company-oriented.
The programme provides students with a thorough insight in basic issues of renewable energy technologies. Due to the current international growth the field of renewable energy will create in the future a large number of jobs to both experts and to persons with undergraduate degrees. The RE-programme also offers possibilities to post-graduate studies.
Selection criteriaThe candidates for admission should holdeither
* appropriate undergraduate degree (Batchelor) or
* appropriate degree from the polytechnics
Previous studies can be accepted from the fields of technical studies, natural sciences, economics or social sciences. The scope and level of basic studies of the applicants who have been accepted into the program as well as credits to be substituted will be discussed case-specifically. Applicants who already have completed one master´s degree or hold a M.Sc (Techn.) can complete the Master´s Degree in Renewable Energy in case the contents of the two degrees in question clearly differ from one another.
The selection criteria are based on both the suitability and the breadth of the previous studies as well as on the grades. The selection will be presented by the Executive committee of the Renewable Energy Programmes and the final decision will be made by the faculties.
Language RequirementsCertificate of an English language test taken (TOEFL or IELTS or Cambridge ESOL exam). A minimum TOEFL score of 580 (Paper Based Test) or 92 (Internet Based Test) is required. An IELTS score of 6.5 or above, or a CPE or CAE exam pass grade (A, B or C), is also acceptable. The test is not required of students who have graduated from a high school or upper secondary school in English in Great Britain, Ireland, the USA, Canada, Australia or New Zealand. Also, if they have completed fully in English a bachelor's degree or a master's degree in the above-mentioned countries, they do not have to take an English language test.
