The Economics postgraduate degree provides training in advanced economic theory and econometric methods and allows you to specialise or take options in subjects reflecting the School’s main areas of research expertise. The programme prepares you for work as a professional economist in the private and public sector, or for a career in research.
Contents
Our teaching is informed by the research and scholarship of teaching staff, and is aimed at motivating you to achieve your full potential. All MSc students take a module in Research Methods, which provides practical skills and knowledge for MSc-level research. Students have widely differing backgrounds in mathematics, so the first week of all our Master's programmes is given over to compulsory intensive teaching in mathematics.

* Core modules in Advanced Macroeconmics; Advanced Microeconomic Theory of Consumers, Markets and Welfare; Advanced Microeconomic Theory of Games and Information; Econometric Methods
* Research Methods
* Three optional modules
* Dissertation of 10-12,000 words on an approved topic
Assessment
Assessment is based on a mixture of assignments, projects and written examinations (in May). You then write a supervised dissertation between June and September.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

A good second class honours degree (or equivalent) in economics.
English language qualificationsAll students from non-English speaking countries must show evidence of competence in an English language test at an appropriate level. Minimum standard IELTS = 6.5, incl 6.0 in reading and writing; TOEFL = 600, incl 4 in written English; internet-based TOEFL 90, incl 20 in reading and writing; Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English C; Cambridge Advanced Certificate in English B.
