Education in computer science methods and techniques are the primary goals of the programme. This is achieved through a wide range of courses, seminars and laboratory courses in Computer Science as well as in its application areas. The curricula comprise an individual choice of advanced graduate courses taking previous experience, intended specialization and language skills into account. As a student you will benefit from the international orientation of the programme, will be actively involved in state-of-the-art research and will be able to attend lectures by internationally recognized staff at the Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg.
Students will have courses in Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Architecture, Theory of Algorithms, Image Processing as well as Databases and Information Systems. In addition they can choose courses from the following concentration areas:
- Algorithms and Data Structures
- Computer Architecture and Operating systems
- Programming Languages and Software Engineering
- Artificial Intelligence and Robotics
- Computer Graphics and Vision
- Communication and Data Management
Finally, they can choose an application area such as Bioinformatics, Medicine or Microsystems Engineering.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

* Officially authenticated degree certificate
* A TOEFL, IELTS or Cambridge Certificate (compulsory for all non-native speakers)
* Evidence of your German proficiency (400 hours of German language course)
* Official certificate(s) of the GRE-Test(s) (recommended, not compulsory)
* Curriculum vitae
* Personal statement explaining your interest in the master programme
* At least two letters of reference from your former professors to be sent in separate envelopes, signed and stamped by the university
* APS (for Chinese and Vietnamese applicants only)
