The aim of this programme is to provide knowledge and develop the skills necessary to analyze, compare and evaluate both the domestic and foreign policies of the countries of Eastern and Central Europe and the international processes within the regions. The programme focuses on the following countries: Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Belarus and Ukraine.
You will acquire:
- advanced knowledge of the concepts, theories and methods in contemporary political science, especially in the field of International Relations and Comparative Politics;
- deep understanding of the history and political systems of the Eastern and Central European countries, as well as political and economical transformation processes that are taking place in the region;
- skills and knowledge to discern the factors that influence the making of domestic and foreign policies in the states of Eastern and Central Europe;
- skills to analyze the development of the region in the context of contemporary international and regional co-operation;
- the methodological skills to undertake and produce independent research project.
The programme is composed of six compulsory courses and four elective courses which are to be chosen out of six proposed courses. The compulsory and elective courses compose 60% of the programme. The rest 40% of the programme is dedicated for research projects, including Master's thesis.
During the first semester, the students will acquire general knowledge and theoretical background on the problematique of the Central and Eastern European states: their historical development, transformations, political and economical systems. Students will choose the elective courses enabling them to analyze particular aspects of the region: historical events, security and legal issues. Students will also present a research project on the chosen theme related to the studied region.
During the second semester, the students will proceed with in depth analysis of chosen countries or groups thereof, focusing on specific cases of either Baltic States, Visegrad States or Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova. At the same time they will deepen their skills of methodology of social sciences that will be necessary in their preparation of Master thesis, by attending Master´s colloquy.
The third semester is meant to finalize knowledge acquired during the first year of studies by preparing a Master thesis. Students will continue to attend master´s colloquy, during which they will have to present their work progress on the MA thesis and discuss it both with their colleagues and lecturers.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
