The European Economic Studies Programme offers students a comprehensive coverage and critical analysis of the process of European economic integration. Courses are designed to provide students with a deep knowledge and thorough understanding of EU policies and the European economy in general.
The programme places strong emphasis on public policy and its implications for business strategies in a global environment, while courses provide a balance between economic theory and applied economic analysis.
Why choose 'European Economic Studies' at the College of Europe in Bruges?
In the first semester, students take five compulsory courses covering five main topics: European Economic Integration, European Institutions and Law, European Macroeconomic Policy, European Industrial Organisation and the Single Market, and an Introduction to Quantitative Methods.
In the second semester, students choose four optional courses from a list of twelve, which explore in greater detail many of the policy areas and issues raised in the core curriculum. In addition, students are required to write a Master's Thesis in the framework of one of the four optional course chosen.
Finally, students from the Economics Department participate in the `European General Studies Programme´ (EG).
The College also organises an intensive refresher course at the beginning of the year for those students who might need to improve their grasp of specialised topics that are prerequisites for participating in the programme.
Possibility offered to a limited number of students to choose the option "European Law and Economic Analysis" (ELEA) under certain conditions.
A new specialisation in `European Economic Integration and Business´ has been launched within the Economic Studies Department. The new specialisation can only admit a limited number of students. This will be decided year by year.
The programme grants a total of 66 ECTS.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.

However, the number of scholarships in the CEECs being quite limited, except for Polish and Slovenian applicants, the College of Europe has decided to finance a certain number of (partial) scholarships itself. We encourage students from these potential countries to submit their application.
The College of Europe offers scholarships to university graduates from the European Neighbourhood Policy countries wishing to study at the College of Europe and to university graduates in history wishing to follow the postgraduate programme in European interdisciplinary studies at the Natolin (Warsaw) campus.
