After finishing the program, you will have an interdisciplinary training combining knowledge and skills from the field of cognitive psychology, information science and cognitive modelling, neurosciences, linguistics and philosophy.
You will acquire good methodological training, experience and skills for conducting individual experimental research in cognitive science and skills for formulating the problem, finding the relevant literature, critical analysis of the solutions suggested in this literature, constructing perspective alternatives and their testing.
If you specialise in "Fundamental cognitive science", you will easily make up scientific texts and conduct fundamental research in the field of cognitive science, you will receive specialised interdisciplinary training in one of the following areas: perception, memory and thinking, language and development. You will be able to continue your development in the PhD program in cognitive science.
If you specialise in "Applied cognitive science", you will accumulate skills for solving problems from the practice through testing, skills for applying the methods and theories of cognitive science in some of the following areas: economics, advertising and marketing, education, human factors in software design, web-based products and systems, including systems for electronic education.

The program is open to students with a Bachelor´s or a Master's degree in Psychology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Linguistics, Biology, Medicine, Philosophy and other related fields of study who have completed the requirements of the preparatory program.
The application procedure includes submission of a Statement of Purpose essay on the topic "Why I want to study Cognitive Science" and an interview. Successful study in the program depends on a good command of English (academic reading and writing skills); applicants are required to present a certificate of English language proficiency or to take an equivalent exam at NBU.
The program is completed by the defense of a Master's thesis which is written in English and in compliance with international standards. The defense is carried out before a Thesis Committee usually during the Summer Schools. The Thesis Committee includes at least one external examiner (a member of the International Advisory Board or a professor recommended by the Board).
INSTITUTIONAL ACCREDITATION by THE NATIONAL EVALUATION AND ACCREDITATIONAGENCY -
On 5th July 2001 NBU obtained from the National Evaluation and Accreditation Agency an institutional accreditation for the maximum 6-year period. This accreditation entitles NBU to enrol students and issue higher education diplomas, recognized by the state. In the month of September 2005, the New Bulgarian University passed through the second procedure of institutional accreditation. The masters program “Law” of the New Bulgarian University obtained program accreditation from the National Evaluation and Accreditation Agency – Outgoing No 397, 22nd June 2004.
ACCREDITATION BY The Open University, London -
On 18th October 2004 the New Bulgarian University obtained accreditation for an initial five- year period from the Open University, Great Britain. The accreditation entitles NBU to offer education on the programs of the Open University.
ACCREDITATION BY OPTIMA -
In the beginning of 2004 the foreign language general educational courses of NBU were accredited by OPTIMA – the Bulgarian branch of the international association for quality language services (EAQUALS-ALTE).
