Location of Radboud University Nijmegen

Our LL.M. programme is primarily designed for students who wish to develop their understanding and knowledge of European Union law with the intent of pursuing a legal career with a strong international dimension. This Master's offers a thorough education in European law, including competition law, immigration law, external relations law, judicial protection, and public international law. Students receive a sound basis for an international legal career.

Specialisations

This Master’s programme at Radboud University Nijmegen is unique in that it not only provides a thorough understanding of European law in general, but also offers further specialisation. After completing the compulsory courses one of three tracks are available:

  • European Law Advanced
  • Human Rights and Migration Law
  • European Business Law

Experts

You will benefit from the extensive experience and expertise of our academic staff. The Faculty of Law of Radboud University Nijmegen was the first in the Netherlands to start a European Law programme. The Faculty has built an international reputation in the field of European (competition) law, immigration law, and private law. Its approach to teaching is small-scale, personal, and interactive. Master’s students have close contact with both lecturers and fellow students, as classes are deliberately kept small. The Faculty of Law at Radboud University Nijmegen is rated number one in the Netherlands for student satisfaction.

International orientation

The Faculty of Law has a truly international orientation and is part of a large network that includes more than fifty universities in Europe, the United States and Australia. All staff and students speak English.


Contents

This Master's programme at Radboud University Nijmegen is unique in that it not only provides a thorough understanding of European law in general, but also offers further specialisation. After completing the compulsory courses one of three tracks are available:

  • European Law Advanced
    This track offers a generalist approach with an emphasis on the concepts of European Union law. It gives you the opportunity to acquire an advanced understanding of the core issues of EU law.
  • Human Rights and Migration Law
    A unique feature of this track is that it combines human rights and immigration law courses, two areas that are among the most important in the European Union today. LL.M. students benefit from the outstanding knowledge and experience of the Centre for Migration Law.
  • European Business Law
    This track offers students the chance to become experts in the area of European business law. They benefit from the knowledge of the renowned Business and Law Research Centre. This centre combines academic excellence with the practical expertise of major companies and law firms.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Requirements

  • The equivalent of a Dutch Bachelor´s degree in Law and a proven knowledge of International and European Law (as evaluated by the examinations commission)
  • Fluency in both written and spoken English. For non native speakers either an IELTS 6 is required, or a TOEFL score of at least 550 for the paper test, 213 for the computer test or 80 for the internet-based test.

Radboud Scholarship Programme

As of February 2008 Radboud University Nijmegen has its own Radboud Scholarship Programme. This programme offers a selected number of talented prospective non-EEA students the opportunity to receive a scholarship to pursue an English-taught Master´s degree programme at Radboud University Nijmegen.

Programmes under the auspices of the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science

HSP Huygens Programme: The HSP Huygens Programme is applicable to students from all over the world.

Netherlands Fellowship Programme: This Fellowship Programme offers scholarships for selected NFP programmes including selected programmes of Radboud University Nijmegen.

Dutch study grant system: EU/EEA students who wish to take a degree programme in the Netherlands can sometimes be eligible for a Dutch student grant.

STUNED: The Stuned programme is applicable to postgraduate students from Indonesia.

National scholarships

HEC: The Higher Education Commission was set up by the Government of Pakistan and has created a scholarship programme for students from Pakistan.

Colfuturo: This programme is available for students from Colombia.
