Master´s programme Information Science will give you everything you need to become an expert coordinator of ICT, people and organizations. The Netherlands is the European leader in information science, and Radboud University Nijmegen is a leader among leaders, producing graduates who ensure that good software is also useable software. Our close links with research at the Institute for Computing and Information Sciences (ICIS) mean that you will be taught by top researchers and ICT experts. And thanks to our close contacts with the private sector, we guarantee interesting speakers and a wide choice of internship places. Students run their own software company, GIPHouse, where they practice for careers as managers and ICT specialists. For those who prefer to develop a proficiency in research, there is the research lab. The overall programme takes a personal approach with individual supervision. All students work in a modern building with excellent facilities.
This programme shows you how to look beyond the borders of your own discipline, because Nijmegen´s information specialists work closely with colleagues from fields like law, medicine, brain research, and artificial intelligence. The annual study trips - to countries such as India, Uganda and South Africa - will enable you to extend your own boundaries.
Because there is a big demand for highly trained information experts who can apply good, user-friendly technology, many of our students are offered jobs even before they´ve graduated. Most graduates go into industry, banking and insurance, or to public-sector organizations such as schools and hospitals.
The Master's programme of Information Science comprises one year (60 EC), and focuses on Business Engineering, Information architecture and Digital Security. The courses are taught in English.
Within the specialisation, 6EC should be chosen from a given selection of courses that provide further deepening of your information science background. The remaining 6 EC is so-called "vrije ruimte" (free choice). The only condition that should be fulfilled here is that there is no overlap between the course(s) of your choice and the other courses of your programme. The courses of your specialisation and free choice must be approved by the Examination board.
In your Master's thesis, you will show that you are able to analyse a problem in information science at master level and design a solution for this problem using scientific methods and techniques. It is possible to combine research for the master's project with an internship in a suitable company.
