DNA and protein are the secret codes of the human body, that can give an insight into bodily processes. The Nijmegen´s unique multidisciplinary Master´s programme in Molecular Life Sciences works at the interface of chemistry, biology and medical science. You will explore the basic principles of molecules and cells, their role in health and disease.
Programme Molecular Life Science is closely associated with the Institute of Molecules and Materials, the Nijmegen Centre for Molecular Life Sciences and the University Medical Centre. You will enter a dynamic research environment, work with international top scientists, learn about the latest developments in your discipline and conduct research in state-of-the-art laboratories.
Two internships are central to the programme. You will get a personal tutor helping you decide which subjects and research to follow, choose a specialization and join a related research group, for example Anthropogenetics, Molecular Biology, Pharmacology, Neurobiology or Bioinformatics. Your second internship will be with a different research group, and can be done abroad or within a company. In making your choice, you will be able to benefit from the extensive international networks of our scientists.
Most of our graduates go on to do a PhD in Nijmegen, at another Dutch university or abroad. Each year our research institutes have a number of PhD vacancies. Some of our graduates find a job as a researcher or manager in the pharmaceutical industry, in the private commercial sector or in research organizations.
The two-year Master research programme (total of 120 EC) includes two 45-EC research internships. For the Master's course (total of 15 EC) a selection should be made from electives, including a 3-EC course in Philosophy.
The first year consists of an experimental internship of 45 EC and Master's courses in Molecular Life Sciences with a total of 15 EC. During the second year, you will follow a second research internship (45 EC), combined with a 15 EC elective programme. Research internships can be carried out in a large variety of departments at the University. Internships performed at other universities in the Netherlands or abroad require the supervision by a lecturer from one of the Radboud University groups listed in the study guide and who will take the scientific responsibility for such an internship.
Each 45-EC research internship consists of:
The 15-EC elective programme consists of 6-EC freely chosen courses at a university level and at least 9 EC covered with courses in Natural Sciences. Students who wish to specialise in Bioinformatics can follow the Bioinformatics track in their programme and will receive a certificate for this Master's track together with their MSc. degree in Molecular Life Sciences.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
