The physicists and astronomers at Radboud University Nijmegen attract attention worldwide with spectacular discoveries - from the origin of cosmic particles to magnetism with light. As a Master´s student in Physics and astronomy you will find yourself working in a dynamic environment. All lectures are enriched by the research carried out at the Institute for Molecules and Materials (IMM), the Institute of Mathematics, Astrophysics and Particle Physics (IMAPP) and the Donders Centre for Neuroscience, which strengthens the link with research.
This programme offers you considerable freedom to follow your own interests, under the guidance of a personal tutor, helping you choosing your research and subjects. At the beginning of your study you will choose between one of the following four specializations:
Within your specialization you will select a research group develop a made-to-measure programme based on your own wishes.
Our Faculty of Science has access to unique equipment and facilities for studying the properties of materials and molecules. This includes a High Field Magnet Laboratory (HFML), NanoLab, NMR Lab, Laser Lab and the Electron Laser. Our newest acquisition is a Free Electron Laser, which we have been able to build thanks to a 23 euros million subsidy from the Dutch government and now the Nijmegen Centre for Advanced Spectrometry is attracting top researchers. As a Master´s student you will also be able to use all of these facilities.
70 per cent of our graduates continue to do a PhD project in Nijmegen or elsewhere in the world. Within our research institutes there are vacancies that come up every year. Other graduates find work as researchers and managers within international companies such as Philips, McKinsey and ASML and research institutes such as ESA and CERN.
The Master's programmes at the Science Faculty of Radboud University are offered in four variants: a research (O) variant, a communication (C) variant, an education (E) variant, and a management and technology (MT) variant. At this moment, only the research variant has a complete programme in the English language. The other variants are at present primarily aimed at the Dutch market and the Dutch educational system, and are therefore primarily in Dutch.
