Over the last decades the media as a business sector and journalism as a profession, as well as the audiences have become more and more international due to globalization. The media sector needs internationally competent employees on all levels including the management level. There is a need for expert journalists to report on international issues. In the academic spheres, too, the focus shifts from national media phenomena to more global and international arenas.
The communications technologies as an infrastructure has made convergence possible between previously separate areas of broadcasting, print, and telecommunications. This convergence brings forward new types of connectivity, content and the circulation of mediated products that create new social imaginaries. The aim of this Master's programme is to study the dynamics of Globalization within the field of media and communication. The students will be encouraged to do research on the outcome of these processes and changes reflected in societies in the shape of political, economic, social and cultural activities.
The master's programme Media and Global Communication is a full-time two years programme. The programme fulfils the requirements of a 120 ECTS (European Transfer Credit System) master's degree in social sciences at the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Finnish Universities are accredited by the law. Universities are responsible for the quality and continuous development of their education and other operations. Legislation also requires them to regularly perform external evaluations of their operations and quality systems and to publish the results of such evaluations. Finnish HEIs decide on their own quality systems, and the comprehensiveness, functioning and effectiveness of the systems are evaluated in the audits, which are valid for six years.
