The Master degree study program ‘Health Care IT’ was developed with the vision and goal to meet the information technology as well as the organizational development requirements and challenges in the healthcare sector. Our students will learn to deal with these challenges through a thorough practice-oriented university education.
The core competence of the degree study program is the deepening of the fundamental understanding of the technical and organizational requirements within the information and communication technologies in the healthcare sector. Successful careers for our graduates are practically guaranteed through the acquired skill sets which can be put to use in solving the current requirements necessary in the fields of medical informatics, medical engineering and healthcare economics as well as future technical challenges.
Students can specialize in either of the following areas of emphasis:
* Life Science Technology
* Health Care Management & Economics
Life Science Technology
The area of emphasis Life Science Technology focuses on topics in the area of medical engineering research and development. A special field of interest in this context is medical imaging systems and the resulting medical image processing. This career field provides an especially interesting interface between technology, organization and medicine.
* Medical device engineering
* Telemedicine
* Medical Imaging
* Medical Image Processing and Pattern Recognition
* Analog and Digital Signal and Process Data Processing
Health Care Management & Economics
The master study degree program HCIT emphasis Health Care Management & Economics connects business administration skills sets and know-how with (medical) technical expertise. Students receive a broad, yet specialized, view of the implementation of information technology and engineering as well as the organizational structures and processes in the healthcare sector.

Contents
The Masters program is 4 semesters and is modularly designed. There is a total of 76 semester weekly hours of courses together with a master (diploma) thesis. Each semester has 15 weeks of lecture and the program starts each year in the Winter Semester (Fall Semester).
The curriculum is designed as follows:
First Semester
* Mathematics and Medical Statistics
* Medical Informatics I
* Basics of Human Medicine
* Medical Engineering
Second and Third Semesters
* Medical Law
* Medical Informatics II
* Informatics
* Healthcare Management and Economics or Life Science Technology
* Organizational Theory
The curriculum is designed to split into two areas of emphasis in the second and third semesters:
* Healthcare Management and Economics
* Life Science Technology
The Head of the Department or Director of Studies of the Master program will decide in coordination with the students of the respective semester which area of emphasis to choose. It is currently planned to only offer one area of emphasis per group.
Fourth Semester
* Master Thesis

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Requirements
Application
Each year 16 applicants have the possibility to begin the Master degree program Health Care Information Technology. Prerequisites is a related Bachelor of Science degree in the field of IT and/or electrical engineering. Additionally, appropriate work experience or job qualifications with additional tests in the subjects of German, English, Mathematics and Physics can open the door to higher education. Applicants need to submit a written application form before the end of August.

Application process
In addition to the application form, please submit a signed C.V./resume with photo (if applicable, please submit certification of additional qualifications), a copy of your school leaving certificate and transcript or a university entrance certificate as well as proof of citizenship. If you meet all prerequisites, you will be invited to an application interview. The results of the interview will be sent to you within a few days.
Credit Transfer
If you have graduated or taken courses at a higher educational institution (university), then credits for courses in certain subjects may be transferred. Credits from courses and/or exams taken in the framework of university studies and programs, academies and other educational institutions (Austrian or international) may be acceptable for transfer. Please bring all records and transcripts of courses completed to the application interview or the department's administration office.
