The scientific master’s programme in Geo Spatial Technologies consists of a single stage of study and lasts a total of four semesters. If you have a bachelor’s degree in Geography, Environmental System Sciences, Geomatics Engineering or in a similar field, you are eligible for the Geo Spatial Technologies master’s programme. The focus of the studies is in the acquisition of scientific knowledge and skills in geoinformatics, remote sensing and visualisation of spatial information. Besides basic knowledge and application of navigation and positioning systems, a knowledge of human and physical geography, earth-bound and aerial surveying and imaging of the Earth’s surface as well as the production of basic cartographic data and aerial maps. Graduates are awarded the degree of Master of Science (MSc).
Career Opportunities
An increasingly complex environment in terms of both the natural and human sciences requires more and more differentiated basic geodata for spatial analysis and problem/ solution scenarios. From this viewpoint, not only are specialised and technical skills demanded to a large degree but also integral and communicative skills. This programme offers and cultivates both types of skills. Graduates of the master’s programme are suited to working in a multidisciplinary, computer-aided, research or consultancy team in the following core areas:
* Development and application of geo-information systems (GIS) and in general IT-embedded GIS services;
* Utilisation of GIS tools for analysing complex terrestrial and spatial interrelations;
* Strategic management of natural and man-made resources;
* Identification of problems and contributing to the development of problem solving in supporting plans, political decisions and NGO activities in marketing and demography;
* Conception, design and implementation of possibilities of visualisation using maps and other multimedia means of communication.
