Location of The University of Edinburgh

The aim of the Cardiovascular Biology course is to provide broadly-based training in biomedical research with a focus on cardiovascular science. The major themes will include an introduction to cardiovascular development and the programming of cardiovascular disease, organ function and dysfunction, the cardiovascular system in reproduction and inflammation. The intention is to provide an integrated view of the cardiovascular system in terms of physiology and pathology, with input from basic and clinical scientists.

Learning Outcomes

Students who follow this programme will:

* have a thorough knowledge of the relevant literature, and the ability to make a critical appraisal of its key material;
* be able to plan, execute and report their research work and place it in the context of the relevant literature;
* be able to accurately report the work already done and its significance.


Contents

Students will attend research seminars and tutorials led by senior clinical and basic scientists, conduct research in the context of multidisciplinary research groups in internationally renowned laboratories and develop their communication skills through delivering slide presentations and writing reports and a dissertation.

IELTS

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Requirements

The programme is intended for high-calibre students with a biological science, medical or veterinary background. The programme serves as an excellent introduction to research in the UK for overseas students intending to proceed to a PhD in this country. Students should therefore have a minimum of a 2:1 honours degree in a relevant biological discipline (or a medical/veterinary qualification) or its equivalent if outside the UK, and have a good grasp of written and spoken English.

* TOEFL 580 (with 55 in each section and 4.0 in TWE)
* TOEFL 237 in CBT (with 21 in each section)
* TOEFL-iBT 92 (with at least 20 in each section)
* CPE Grade B or higher
* CAE Grade A
