The course links together theoretical debates about sustainability at different spatial scales with the practical dimensions of environmental policy formulation and its implementation. The planning system is taken as a reference point because it provides one of the most sophisticated mechanisms for regulating environmental change. Students gain an insight into problem definition and the application of leading-edge solutions to those problems by business, government and regulatory bodies.

Special Features:
* Recognised by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RCIS), allowing completion of the educational requirement for RICS membership.
* Recognised by the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) as a 'specialist' Masters for those who have completed at least a three-year RTPI recognised undergraduate spacial planning, allowing completion of the RTPI's educational requirements for membership.
* Scope to focus on particular environmental problems (e.g. climate change) and environmental policy in a range of sectors (planning, food/agriculture, transport and housing).
Full-time students attend roughly 12-15 hours of classes per week, timetabled into about 3 days of the week; part-time students attend roughly 6-8 hours of classes per week, timetabled, usually, into one full day and one or two part days per week. The needs of part-time students are given careful consideration in the timetabling of the course.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
Take testA First or Second Class UK Honours degree in an appropriate subject is required. The course is suitable for graduates in subjects such as geography, sociology, politics, or economics, and/or appropriate professional qualifications.
The course is specifically aimed at those people wishing to gain expertise and a critical perspective, through research and practice, on contemporary sustainability issues.
For students whose first language is not English, one of the following is usually required: IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 575 (232 for computer-based marking).
Note: International students pursuing part-time programmes of study are not eligible for Tier 4 (General Student) visas and must have alternative leave to remain in the UK if they intend to study at the University in person.
