This course is for orthopaedic surgeons who wish to develop their expertise at postgraduate level. It is run jointly by staff at the Cathays and Heath Park campuses.
The course aims to explore aspects of engineering relating to medicine and to examine some of the problems arising out of implant technology. It introduces the basic features of engineering principles in relation to materials, experimentation, mechanical engineering theory and surgical techniques which are relevant to the orthopaedic discipline.
Topics covered on the course include:

Assessment: Coursework and examination.

Suitable for graduates in Orthopaedic Surgery. An upper 2nd class UK Honours degree (or equivalent) from a British or recognised overseas university is required.
Additional Entry Requirements: MB BCh essential, FRCS/MRCS desirable.
Applicants whose first language is not English will be required to pass either IELTS/TOEFL exams. Minimum requirements: IELTS score of 6.5, or TOEFL score of 600 (250 computer-based).
