Location of University of Valencia

Technological, social, and cultural changes pose new communication challenges. To tackle them, the Master in language consultancy and literary culture (120 ECTS) promoted by IIFV offers academic and professional training in two courses. The first one is a common core course; the second one includes three pathways: secondary education, institutions, and mass media and language industry. The master has an interdisciplinary approach, including philological knowledge and command of ICTs and professional applications. An academic tutor will be available to students, who will advise them on their specialisation choice. Company placement or applied research will complement the training.

To complete language and literary education, integrating the knowledge of the sociolinguistic reality in a multilingual communication perspective.

To delve into the professional qualification, taking into account specific training needs and work market demands.

To start scientific research, applied to linguistic communication in the Valencian environment and to new technological uses.

* Specialities: Language consultancy and literary culture in secondary education. Language consultancy and literary culture in public administration and mass media. Language consultancy and literary culture in publishing houses and specialised translation companies

The maximum number of students is restricted to 70.

This master program consists of 120 (ECTS) credits articulated as follows:

1st year:

CORE COURSES (60 ECTS) credits:

o Medieval literature and culture II
o Literature and culture in modern times
o Contemporary literature and culture II
o Information and communication technologies
o Documentary resources and academic communication techniques
o Text correction
o Levels of culture: popular and traditional culture, national culture and mass culture
o Theory of literature and pragmatics of the literary communiccation
o Literary genres I: poetry
o Literary genres II: drama
o Literary genres III: prose
o Literary genres IV: literature of ideas, essay, journalism and literary criticism
o Intercultural pragmatics
o Comparative literature
o Linguistic commentary of texts
o Historical and phylological commentary
o Descriptive linguistics
o Prescriptive linguistics
o Contrastive linguistics

2nd year:

SPECIALITY COURSES of (40 ECTS) credits:

* Speciality 1. Language consultancy and literary culture in secondary education
* Speciality 2. Language consultancy and literary culture in public administration and mass media.
* Speciality 3. Language consultancy and literary culture in publishing houses and specialised translation companies

and 20 ECTS credits of:

* a) Introduction to research activities, or
* b) External practices in companies

Requirements

ADDRESSED TO: University graduates with studies related with the knowledge areas or professional profiles included by the programme (languages, translating and interpreting, humanities, audiovisual communication, journalism, pedagogy, teaching, librarianship, and documentation). Professionals whose activity is in line with that of the master´s specialisation areas (secondary education teachers, linguistic and cultural consultant, publishers, translators, librarians...). Master students must have a good Catalan level (spoken and written) equivalent to that of second cycle university studies.

ADNISSION: Access from two pathways: active professionals or university graduates. Applicants will submit a full CV with academic records and proof of the professional activities developed.

SPECIAL REMARKS: 30% of places are reserved to professionals and 70% to university graduates. In any case, 10% of the places will be reserved to foreign or exchange program students.
