The Master of Business Administration (MBA) full-time programme is targeted at business professionals who want to become tomorrow’s leaders and managers, and who are looking for a comprehensive education on business management in a global context. In this programme students learn to integrate the main business processes of organizations into effective and efficient corporate strategy. In addition, they learn to deal with the diverse and sometimes diverging interests of various stakeholders involved in international business. The programme requires 3-5 years of work experience and prepares graduates for senior and general management positions. The programme focuses on leadership and management in a (inter)national context.
Educational concept
Our educational concept is characterized by small group sizes, and intensive contact between students and staff. Next to lectures and workshops, students work in teams as well as individually on practice-based and experience-based projects and case studies. Students interact with the world of practice through guest lectures by entrepreneurs, senior business executives and knowledge experts, seminars and company visits. Our teaching staff is selected to ensure a interesting mixture of business experience and expertise in applied research. Throughout the programme the integration between different knowledge areas is strongly emphasized. The full programme is taught in English.
The duration of the MBA full-time programme is 14 months and is spread out over three semesters, starting in September each year and ending in November of the following academic year. The first two semesters are characterized by course work and the third semester focuses on undertaking applied research in a business context. The total size of the programme is 90 ECTS.
Semester One
The first semester begins with an intensive introduction programme. Students take part in a variety of activities and learn exercises to enhance group cohesion and personal effectiveness. During the introduction, business knowledge and skills of students are assessed. Of course students will also get an introduction to the city of Groningen, Hanze University Groningen, its facilities, the MBS programme and its staff. After the introduction, the following courses are offered:
Semester Two
Students deal with more complex, inter-related management issues in the second semester. Acting as a consultant to a company, they will solve a real-life international business problem. Students are offered electives for focus on a particular topic of interest. The following courses are included:
Semester Three
In the final semester, students will focus on their MBA thesis, which involves applied research in a company anywhere in the world. Besides providing the relevant knowledge about business management during the first two semesters, students are required to select a topic and a business setting for their MBA thesis already during the first semester, and further develop their thesis proposal during the second semester. The actual research and writing the thesis are undertaken during the third semester.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
