The first year reviews many of the latest project management frameworks, tools and techniques, including the bodies of knowledge from the major professional institutions. Assignments are designed to test students´ basic understanding, as well as their ability to critically evaluate existing practices and processes in their organisations in terms of possible improvement using alternative approaches.
The second year moves away from standard project management subjects to examine pressures on project and decision-making from the wider, internal and external contexts. Students are required to experiment with a variety of alternative approaches which may be more appropriate and effective than their tried and tested means of problem-solving. Important intangibles such as ethics, governance, partnering and stakeholder engagement are also integral to the second year´s curriculum.
The third year begins with the research methods module which prepares students for their final thesis assessment. Students have to provide evidence based conclusions and recommendations following the systematic investigation of an organisational problem or phenomenon. Although students are experienced managers, Cranfield emphasises the importance of continuous personal growth and development. The final workshop is designed to help students develop a greater sense of self-awareness and define a career roadmap.
