Senior financial practitioners advise us on the unique course content which combines strategic and analytical finance with a solid grounding in management principles. This unique blend of theory and practice brings industry into the classroom.

The programme includes much of the syllabus of the Chartered Financial Analyst, offering you the chance to gain an additional professional qualification.

Thesis

The culmination of the learning process is your opportunity to undertake a major research project and acquire hands-on experience with one of our leading industry partners. Our significant industry links and high profile network of alumni give us the opportunity to introduce you to top organisations in which to carry out your project. You will research, report and present on a subject of your choice, have a chance to develop prestigious contacts and make a real difference in a genuine financial environment.

Your chosen subject area will be agreed in consultation with the programme director and you will then be allocated a supervisor whose expertise lies in that field.

During your thesis you will work closely with your supervisor who will support you and provide expert guidance, advice and insights into leading-edge thinking in your subject area.

This valuable learning experience will provide you with a thorough grounding in a number of disciplines, including:

  • principles of research
  • the research process
  • problem formulation
  • data collection
  • data analysis
  • report writing

These transferable skills are invaluable and you will learn how to confidently apply them to complex research challenges in the workplace.

Assessment

Assessment is by both examination and written course work and is set to challenge you beyond the level at which you have been taught. This encourages you to find your own solutions to problems and breeds a level of pro-activity that ensures you are not just an intellectual, but a problem solver and a solution finder.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Requirements

We welcome applications from talented candidates of all backgrounds. We consider your qualifications, work experience and test scores on an individual basis. Usually
candidates must:

1. Hold a relevant, recognised qualification, either:

  • a 1st or 2nd class UK Honours Degree (or equivalent Bachelors Degree)
  • or a professional qualification (e.g. Diploma from The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and have 5 years' relevant work experience.

*Please note: applications will not be considered for processing without transcripts and two references on official headed paper, these must be submitted at the time of application.

*Having taken into consideration all your application details the Programme Director may still require you to undertake the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) and obtain a minimum score of 600 with analytical writing of 4.0. The GMAT programme code for the MSc in Finance and Management is K2H-N3-88. For further information please visit the GMAT website: www.gmat.com.

2. Have a good standard of English.

The participative nature of the programme demands a high oral ability and written work needs a strong business vocabulary. If English is not your first language, you must take one of the following:

  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - a minimum score of 92 internet test, 237 computer test or 580 paper test is required (please note: if you take the paper test you must also complete the test of written English and gain a minimum score of 4.0). The ETS DI Code for TOEFL is 0822.
  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - band 6.5 is required, with writing of 6.5.
  • English for Speakers of other languages (ESOL) either:
    1. Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) - grade A - C
    2. Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) - grade C or above
  • Pearson Test of English (Academic): overall score of 65

*Please note: If you have studied in English at higher education level, you may not be required to take an English test.

3. Exposure to quantitative subjects

From previous studies or work experience is essential (e.g. mathematics, statistics, engineering, economics or other numerically grounded subjects).

We do not have a formal deadline for the receipt of applications, however, to secure your place on the course and in accommodation, it is advisable to apply as early as possible as places are limited.

We have a limited number of bursaries available for EU/UK candidates up to a maximum of £4,000.
