Location of University of Bonn

This interdisciplinary programme will educate the participant to successfully master the novel technical and economic challenges at the crossroads of biotechnology, medicine, pharmaceutics and computer science. The programme is distinguished by its international orientation, its focus on both natural science and IT competence, and its high level of integration of research and teaching. The master's program in Life Science Informatics consists of three main blocks:

* computer science and mathematics for natural scientists
* basic principles of Life Science Informatics
* biology of the cell and systems biology

The course programme aims at educating talented and highly motivated women and men for leadership in the post-genomic era. The master's degree in Life Science Informatics provides the qualifications needed for managing large projects in all fields of Life Sciences ranging from molecular biology to pharmaceutical drug design to computational neurobiology. Students who excel during their master's programme will also have the necessary qualifications to pursue a doctoral degree.

Requirements

Language Requirements:
The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is strongly recommended. Candidates must be able to fluently speak and write English (TOEFL 550 paper-based, 213 computer-based or IELTS 6.0). German courses for foreign students are offered at the University of Bonn (see Language courses of German have to be attended by the third semester of the Master Program.
Academic / Other Requirements
A first university degree (B.Sc. or B.Eng.) in Biology, Medicine, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Neurobiology, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science or another closely related discipline, with grades well above average.
The applicant should have substantial background in the life sciences, computer science and mathematics. Typically this would include previous courses in the following areas: Calculus, Linear Algebra, Statistics, Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry, Theoretical Biology, Fundamentals of Computer Programming, Data Structures and Algorithms, Fundamentals of Theoretical Computer Science.
