Graduates from the ARTS Master's program are equipped with skills and tools to recognize and solve problems related to (sub)tropical resource management, thus:
making them more effective leaders for agricultural development
preparing them for agricultural and environmental research and development positions
providing an entry qualification for Ph.D. programs
We support students by looking for initial accommodation. Most students live at student residences.
We provide personal support in the first few days. Before the course starts we also offer a two-month German language course and organize excursions.
The ARTS Master program extends over 22 months and consists of two "in-class" semesters and two research semesters. The "in-class" program is structured into compulsory and optional course modules, following the European Credit Transfer System/ECTS.
1st semester: compulsory overview modules (with a fixed time table)
2nd semester: In-depth modules chosen from a catalogue of the following research areas: Land and Water Management; Development and Resource Economics; Animals - Ecosystems - Environments; Plants - Ecosystems - Environments
3rd and 4th semester: thesis research work, thesis writing and defense
For each module the students' performance is assessed through an exam. Compulsory modules have pass/fail written exams. In-depth-modules have graded oral exams. The Master's thesis has to be defended. Thesis and defense are graded. Overall grades are calculated from the performance in the in-depth course work, the thesis and the defense grades.
