Location of Cardiff University

After an introduction to the climatic forces which affect buildings, there are modules which focus on specific aspects of building performance, providing an opportunity for the acquisition of both academic foundation and practical skills in the evaluation of building performance by simulation:

* The calculation of daylight availibility, incident solar radiation, shading/overshadowing effects and artificial lighting.
* The thermal performance of buildings and the pivotal role played by computational analysis tools in achiveing efficiency and comfort
* The simulation and analysis of ventilation and air flow through and around buldings
* The appropriate use of mechanical services and buildings, and appropriate methods for their assessment.

Requirements

The course is suitable for graduates or practitioners in disciplines related to the built environment, such as architecture, building services engineering, building technology or environmental studies, who would like to develop expertise and skills in advanced modelling and simulation methods. Applicants should possess a good first degree, or equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline.
