This Masters is a programme designed to train students in the fields of nanoscience and nanotechnology, as a pathway to begin research leading to a doctoral thesis. The most relevant knowledge areas are chemistry, physics, engineering, material science, biochemistry, pharmacy and medicine.

The subject matter of the Masters lies in the crossroads between nanoscience/ nanotechnology and molecular systems. It emphasises currently relevant scientific areas such as molecular electronics, molecular magnetism, supramolecular chemistry, surface physics and molecular materials science .

Career Opportunities
On completing the Masters students should have multidisciplinary training in aspects related to nanoscience, both chemical (a bottom-up approach to nanoscience, to design functional molecules and supramolecular structures, molecular interaction, molecular self-assembly and self-organisation) and physical (a top-down approach for nanofabrication, physical techniques of manipulation, organisation and characterisation of nanomaterials).

The students will also learn to focus on scientific problems from a material science perspective, and will acquire an overview of the impact of nanoscience on other scientific and technological areas such as electronics, chemistry, biomedicine and material science.

Objectives
This inter-university Masters has two fundamental objectives:

a) To establish a national standard of excellence at Masters level, which will prepare students for research in molecular nanoscience and nanotechnology, and provide the knowledge and abilities needed to work in high-tech companies.

b) To encourage mobility and knowledge exchange between students of the various universities, and contact with research centres and companies working in the field.
