The International Master Program in Computational Engineering is a four semester course taught by the Institute of Computer Science of the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg together with cooperating institutes in the Faculty of Engineering (Technische Fakultät).
The course is taught in English and is open to students with an excellent degree at the Bachelor level in Computer Science, Mathematics, or an Engineering discipline otherwise represented at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg.
The Master Program is designed to allow students to pursue Computer Science studies in concurrence with an engineering field of their choice. For this reason, applicants are required to have knowledge in both of areas of study. Ideally, students will have a Bachelors degree in Computational Engineering, or a good engineering degree with a strong Computer Science component (or vice versa).
In addition a good mathematical background is essential. The program requires a minimum of 2 years of engineering mathematics at the university level. Additional knowledge in numerical mathematics is advantageous.
For students from abroad the Master course usually begins in September with one month preparatory courses. The program starts in the winter term and lasts for four semesters. The final six months of the program are spent writing a Masters thesis, which introduces students to working on research projects at the university.
