The University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and the Technical University Munich have set up an elite co-operation project in the framework of the Elite Network of Bavaria.
Information and multimedia technology have experienced a rapid growth within the last few years and have attained a high economic importance worldwide. This progress is mainly driven by theoretical achievements based on highly complex mathematical concepts and algorithms and by the application of modern abstract methods. Examples are schemes for digital speech, audio and video coding, digital transmission, embedded systems, and communication networks.
By linking the competences of two universities which are highly respected in the area and of a well-known Fraunhofer institute, an excellent basis for the promotion of elite emerges.
The master study program is based on bachelor and diploma programs with focus on information and communication technology and extends them. A specialization in selected topics up to the state of the art in scientific research in the area of CME as well as the acquisition of interdisciplinary knowledge is intended.
Four semesters are intended for the duration of the course. A beginning of the CME course of studies is possible for the winter semester. Thus the CME programme leads within four semesters to a degree Master of Science (M.Sc.).
Modern teaching methods tailored to individual needs express the special character of the CME course of studies.
The curriculum contains 120 credit points within four semesters.
Selective admission, individual support and advice as well as courses on high scientific level will guarantee profoundness of education and shortened duration of study. A dense program is provided by the regular lectures and by additional lab courses.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
Take testQualification for the Elite Master Study Course SIM is proven by:
* the acquisition of an outstanding Bachelor/Master or Diploma degree at a German or foreign scientific university in one of the courses of studies Electrical Engineering, Information and Communication Technology, Computer Science with emphasis on system oriented subjects, Computational Engineering or a comparable course. Equivalence of the subject of an external degree is judged by the selection committee.
Alternatively the following conditions apply to candidates from courses of Diploma studies mentioned, where still no Bachelor program exists...
* who is registered in one of the specified courses of studies
* who has finished the diploma preliminary tests up to the end of the fourth term
* who has reached an excellent grade far above the average grade in the diploma preliminary tests
* who has performed further - as relevantly classified by the selection committee - study and test achievements of the main study to the extent of two terms, at least however 50 ECTS with a grade far above the average grade
* who did not exceed the sixth term.
Applicants from Diploma courses can receive a Diploma degree in the Elite Study Course SIM instead of a master degree.
The diploma preliminary tests are passed "far above the average", if the candidate belongs to the ten of one hundred best students per year. Beyond that candidates are required to have excellent grades and maintain a GPA of 3.5, respectively 80%, or better.
The admission into the SIM elite master study course takes place after passing the procedure for determination of eligibility for SIM. This procedure is accomplished upon the request of the applying student.
