This programme is designed to train students in modern Electrical Power Engineering. It offers high level education in close co-operation with industry. Students will gain the ability to understand and cope with the various problems of electrical power engineering by the application of scientific methods, including the ability to adapt new scientific findings for the use of electrical power engineering. Students will learn how to apply their knowledge of mathematics and electrical engineering to technical problems, and then solve problems in a global social and economic context.
During the three month industrial internship, students are trained in practical engineering problems. Flexibility and open-mindedness are major qualifications of the electrical engineer.
Electrical Power engineers work in electric power utilities, in industrial R & D, planning, construction, production, sale and distribution departments, in public authorities with supervision and control tasks, or in research centres and university institutes.
For a successful application, the following minimum ECTS requirements will have to be met:
* Higher Mathematics: 28 ECTS
* Physics and physical fundamentals in Electrical Engineering (e.g., material science): 12 ECTS
* Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering: 30 ECTS
* Fundamentals of Computer Science and Programming: 12 ECTS
* Fundamentals of Mathematical System Theory: 8 ECTS
* Theoretical specialisation in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science: 8 ECTS
* Application-oriented courses, e.g., from the areas of Circuit Technology, Microelectronics, Communications Engineering, Electrical Power Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Medical Engineering: 20 ECTS
Candidates who do not meet the above ECTS requirements will have to undergo a special admissions process, which takes into account criteria such as the focus of study, grades attained and academic achievement. The ECTS requirements will have to be met prior to the completion of the degree course.
Career Opportunities
Electrical Power engineers work in electric power utilities, in industrial R & D, planning, construction, production, sale and distribution departments, in public authorities with supervision and control tasks, or in research centres and university institutes.

A candidate should have a recognised first degree (Bachelor of Science or Engineering) in Electrical Engineering awarded by an internationally recognised university-level institution. Candidates should have also performed above average in their undergraduate studies. The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is recommended (not required).
For English-taught programmes candidates must be able to speak and write fluently in English (TOEFL 550 paper-based/213 computer-based or IELTS 6.0). English-speaking students attend a basic German language course that will start in August, two months prior to the beginning of the Master programme.
For German-taught programmes candidates must be able to speak and write fluently in German (DSH or TestDaF (Level 4 in all areas ). If you have basic knowledge of the German language (Zertifikat (ZD) minimum mark "befriedigend" or TestDaF, minimum level "3" in all areas), you can still apply for a RWTH master programme taught in German, but you will also have to apply to attend an advanced German language course at RWTH Aachen prior to the begin of your planned study programme
Special Entrance Requirements
Students should have profound theoretical knowledge in electrical engineering, higher mathematics, and natural sciences.
