Information and information and communication technologies (ICT) are increasingly an integral part of products and services as well as the foundation of business processes. Therefore, organisations must know how to make the right choices with respect to new IT-related innovations and, at the same time, ensure that existing business processes continue to receive high quality service from IT. Also, managers will need to master global operations and how to support them innovatively with information technology. The GITM programme will prepare students to understand these issues and to find the solutions that are needed to effectively design, deploy and manage international operations.
The GITM programme provides the latest knowledge on linking IT and management. The GITM program is designed to prepare students with a background (bachelor of science) either in business or information technology or computer science to become hybrid managers at the interface between IT and business functions. The following list gives a tentative idea of the future jobs of GITM graduates:
* Manager of international IT projects, deploying global enterprise recourse planning systems
* IS management positions, chief information officers, IT managers, Information manager
* Business analyst or designer of systems to support international operations
* Information system strategy consultant in internationally operating companies
* Manager of IT offshore outsourcing
* IT entrepreneur
The major in the degree is Information Systems Science, and the minor is either Management and Organisation or International Business. The completion of the Master´s degree makes a student eligible for post-graduate studies in Information Systems Science.
Study structure
The degree consists of 120 ECTS cr with the following structure:
Major: Information Systems Science
* Advanced studies in Information Systems Science 60 ECTS cr.
* Research methods 6 ECTS cr is obligatory for all GITM-students.
* Master's thesis 30 ECTS cr.
* If a student does not have a major in Information Systems in his/her bachelor's degree, obligatory basic studies must be completed by taking additional examinations in the form of book exams and research essays.
Minor: International Business OR Management & Organisation OR Entrepreneurship
* International Business 25 ECTS cr.
* Management and Organization 25 ECTS cr.
* Entrepreneurship 25 ECTS cr.
Languages and communications
* First foreign language: Courses in English, at least 6 ECTS cr.
* Second foreign language, foreign students: 4 ECTS cr of Finnish studies is a compulsory part of language studies for foreign students.
Methodology studies
* Methodological studies, 7 ECTS cr.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Academic criteria:
University level Bachelor's degree corresponding Finnish Bachelor of Science in Economics and Business Administration (about 5 students' quota) or university level Bachelor's degree equivalent to Finnish Bachelor of Science (majoring in information systems, computer science, software engineering, or industrial engineering and management) (about 5 students' quota) (degree must be earned at the time of applying).
The grade of the applicant's major studies should be at the average level, 3 or better for students graded on a grading scale of 1-5. The minimum for all other grading systems should be average or better. If the applicant's certificate does not indicate the grade for the major studies, the average grade will be calculated from all courses indicated in the transcript of records.
Certificate of knowledge of English:
Prospective candidates should have a good level of proficiency in the English language. Applicant are expected to have taken one of the following tests:
* TOEFL PBT (Test of English, paper-based), minimum requirement: 575 points.
* TOEFL CBT (Test of English, computer-based), minimum requirement: 232 points.
* TOEFL iBT (Test of English, Internet-based), minimum requirement: 92 points.
* CAE/CPE (University of Cambridge Advanced Examination/Proficiency Examination): pass grades A, B, or C.
* IELTS (International English Language Testing System), minimum grade: 6,5.
* The test for the National Certificate of Language Proficiency arrange by the Finnish National Board of Education, average skill level: 5.
* A test offered by the University of Helsinki Language Centre's Language Services, averages skill level: 5.
The language test is not required if the candidate holds the required degree in which the instruction language has been English, either from one of the EU/EEA countries or from Australia, Canada, New Zealand or the U.S.A.
Selection of candidates:
If the number of applicants meeting the criteria above exceeds the total number of students per quota to be selected to the program, the following criteria will be used to rank order the applications:
* The total number of university level courses taken in Information Systems Science (applicants with the Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and Business Administration).
* The total number of university level courses taken in the Bachelor's degree in subjects that are required in the Finnish Bachelor of Science in Economics and Business Administration degree (business and economics studies) (applicants with a Bachelor of Science degree in information systems, computer science, software engineering, or industrial engineering and management).
* The grades received from the Information Systems Science courses in the Bachelor's degree (applicants with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and Business Administration).
* The grades received from the courses that are from the subjects required in the Finnish Bachelor of Science in Economics and Business Administration degree (applicants with the Bachelor of Science degree in information systems, computer science, software engineering, or industrial engineering and management).
