This popular interdisciplinary course in Christian history is taught by staff from the departments of History, Classics, Welsh and Theology and Religious Studies.
In addition to a compulsory module in Study and Research Methodology and a 20,000 word dissertation, students choose from a range of modules which cluster round the central themes of the Byzantine Church, Celtic and Medieval Christianity, and post-Reformation Christianity (with an emphasis on Britain).

Language Modules
Students on the MTh in Church History may take 20 credits in a classical language, either Latin or Medieval Latin, or Greek. Modules are available to cater for those of different standards. Beginner´s modules are for those with little or no previous knowledge. Intermediate modules are for those with GCSE/O´ Level or equivalent. Advanced modules are for those with a relevant A´ Level or equivalent qualification.
All classical language modules are available by distance learning, or they can be studied on campus. Distance learning students need to be aware that they must start modules at the same time as the campus-based students (October and January) and that they must work at more or less the same pace. Time tests and an examination form part of the assessments, although these do not need to be taken in Lampeter.
All the modules are described fully in the Department of Classics booklet Greek and Latin Language Modules. If you are interested in this option, please obtain this publication from the Classics Department, and contact the Classics Language Co-ordinator, Dr Mirjam Plantinga.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
