The Master's programme Operations Research (OR) deals with analytical methods for decision making in logistical business environments.
In the master's programme Operations Research (OR) students develop and use mathematical and computational methods, which help to evaluate, improve or resolve operational and logistical issues in business or industrial situations. The programme offers: * a well balanced curriculum with advanced Deterministic and Stochastic Operations Research courses as well an Applied Operations Research-stream. * opportunities for additional elective courses or a practical internship. * practical experiences and contacts leading to specialized case courses and possibilities for thesis topics. * teaching staff with established scientific records and reputations in deterministic (TSP, heuristics, scheduling, inventory theory) and stochastic (queuing, queuing-networks, Markov decision theory) OR. * excellent career prospects for Graduates of Operations Research. The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) may not be able to offer the MSc programme in Operations Research in the form indicated on the website in 2012-2013. This programme will end in 2012The Master of Science in Operations Research is a one-year programme of 60 ECTS credits (1 ECTS credit = 0,5 US credit). The course schedule is listed below. The academic year runs from September to the beginning of July and is divided into two semesters, each with three blocks. Please refer to the academic calendar for the exact dates.
Upon successful completion of the programme, students receive a Master's degree in Operations Research and the title Master of Science (MSc).
The Master's thesis is the final requirement to be completed prior to graduation. It will be supervised by one of the researchers from the relevant field.
Students can choose any Master course that starts in block 3 or in the second semester. For a list of courses please refer to the pfd file 'Elective courses' below. In the UvA course catalogue you can find more information on the courses under the header 'Search course'.

Master's students can also choose to do an internship in order to conduct research for their final thesis. This offers the opportunity to conduct research in a company or organization on an academic level.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
