The University of Wales Lampeter was founded in 1822 and is now one of the federal universities of the University of Wales (which also incorporates the Universities of Swansea, Cardiff, Bangor and Aberystwyth.) Currently it has 10 full-time faculty and a number of part-time staff. The Department is of humane size and the atmosphere welcoming. Lampeter's Founders' Library (which has holdings of all periods, but especially 17th-19th century) is an unusual facility intellectually and physically, complementing the main library. Our graduates are encouraged to share ideas with staff in seminars, and attend postgraduate all-Wales conferences.
The MA in English offers students the opportunity to further their education and improve their employability with a postgraduate qualification from Wales´s oldest degree-awarding institution. The broad range of modules available enables students to select their own pathway, based on their individual preferences. Students are required to complete two core modules (Comparative Critical Approaches and Research Methods), along with two option modules, and produce a 20 000 word dissertation on a subject of their own choice (subject to departmental approval). Students are encouraged to attend the department´s regular research seminars, and to participate in the vibrant postgraduate scene in Lampeter.
