The programme Master of Science in Production Systems Engineering builds upon the existing qualifications of the students and facilitates a deepening of the knowledge in the fields of materials, manufacturing processes, process and product engineering, manufacturing system design, manufacturing competitiveness and management. Skills such as leading and functioning within project teams and being able to communicate effectively will be strengthened. By extensive laboratory experience, the graduate will be able to carry out fundamental or applied research, to identify vital work steps and to communicate the results of such research.


Contents

To achieve a Master of Science in "Production Systems Engineering" students have to satisfy certain requirements by taking compulsory courses and elective courses. The compulsory subjects cover the fundamentals of Production Systems Engineering, such as Welding and Joining Technologies, Manufacturing Technology, Machine Tools, Production Management, Quality Management as well as Industrial Engineering, Ergonomics and Work Organisation.

For the elective subjects students can choose from one of several possibilities in the fields of Logistics, Virtual Machine Tools, Advanced Software Engineering, Machine Design Process, Tribology, Production Metrology, Modelling, Mechatronics or Control Engineering.

In addition to the course work, students must also complete the following as part of their programme:

* A complementary German course
* A nine-week industrial internship
* A study-integrated mini-thesis
* A four month Master thesis.

Requirements

A candidate should have a recognised first degree (Bachelor of Science or Engineering) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, such as Automotive, Aerospace or Energy Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial or Production Engineering, awarded by an internationally recognised university-level institution.

Candidates should have also performed above average in their undergraduate studies and should be able to speak and write fluently in English (TOEFL 550 paper-based/213 computer-based or IELTS 6.0). The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is also required.

Special Entrance Requirements

This programme is appropriate for both engineers coming from industry as well as those coming directly from university. Candidates should be able to apply their knowledge of mathematics and science and engineering to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems. In addition, candidates should be able to design a particular system, component, or process to meet desired needs, as well as to prepare and perform experiments in a laboratory environment.
