Aims of the course
* To provide students with an advanced understanding of current theoretical debates within Social Anthropology.
* To enable students to evaluate the contribution of Social Anthropology within the social sciences, humanities and sciences.
* To provide students with practical knowledge and expertise in ethnography, so that they can critically evaluate anthropological methodologies and prepare and carry out their own practical work in the discipline.
* To encourage students to apply anthropological knowledge to contemporary issues, and to enhance their understanding of the society in which they live.
* To equip students with library research skills and training in information technology, providing them with advanced skills, applicable to a variety of work situations.

Objectives:
* Social Anthropology MA students will be able to:
* Understand both historical and contemporary issues within social anthropology.
* Apply anthropological and ethnographic methods and analyses to a range of situations.
* Present their work, both orally and in writing, clearly and accurately to different audiences.
* Prepare and carry out original empirical research.
* Work individually and as part of a team.
* Embark on a postgraduate research degree in anthropology or a related discipline.


IELTS

Requirements

A good standard of education and a first degree in a relevant subject is usually required for entry to a Master´s programme.

International students applying for study at postgraduate level will normally be required to show evidence of sufficient command of the English language to be able to follow their course, undertake research and produce writing without major linguistic difficulties. For example, this is usually the Cambridge Advanced or Proficiency Certificate, IELTS minimum score of 6.5, TOEFL minimum score of 575.
