The course is now one of the most distinctive and established MA programmes in Britain. The objective of the degree is to develop an informed understanding of the imaginative interrelationships between literature and the visual arts.
The conception of the course is a broad one, reflecting both the staff's diversity of expertise and the growing international interest in areas of discourse which challenge traditional subject boundaries.
Topics such as theories of representation, the aestethics of the literary and visual arts, the production of the illustrated manuscript and book through the ages, the examination of cultural forms such as graphic satire or literary landscape, the visualness of the literary, the making of film from literary texts, may all provide the focus for study.
