Location of The University of Edinburgh

This is a 12-month (full-time, or 24-month part-time) programme. It is especially appropriate for students with a good general knowledge of the subject-area and who wish to focus their interests and deepen their knowledge of a given topic. This degree is a good preparation for PhD work.

This programme enables students to study History of Art at an advanced level, covering a wide variety of fields, which range from early medieval art in Britain and Ireland to modernist architecture and sculpture in Brazil.

Learning Outcomes

History of Art is an interdisciplinary subject that provides transferable skills in the analysis of images and texts, research, academic writing, public presentations, and IT.


Contents

The MSc by Research consists of assessed work, split between a dissertation (15,000 words) and three essays on topics related to the dissertation (5,000 words each).
The programme includes a compulsory research training course and a methodology course, both taken in the first year, which covers research methods and methodologies in an interdisciplinary workshop.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
