This course offers an opportunity for health and social care professionals to explore the complex health and social needs of older people living in today’s society. The course aims to provide students with opportunities to develop broad-based knowledge and skills in this area by offering high-quality, integrated, multidisciplinary education in the field of ageing, health and disease.

Course Description:
This course offers broad based knowledge and skills through integrated interprofessional education in many aspects of the health and ill health and gerontological issues in the ageing population. Training in research design and techniques is also given.

The taught programme starts in September each year and can be studied full-time over one year or part-time over two years. In addition to taught modules, MSc students also undertake a dissertation. Students can work for a Postgraduate certificate (4 modules), a Postgraduate Diploma (8 modules) or complete the Masters degree.

* Physical and Mental Health and Age
* Organisation and Delivery of Care (compulsory)

Three further modules from:

* Stroke
* Neurodegenerative Disease
* Falls and Bone Health
* Therapeutics

Assessment: Students are assessed through eight modular assignments (four leading to a Certificate and eight leading to the Diploma). In addition to successfully completing these assignments, MSc students must complete a dissertation.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Requirements

Suitable for healthcare professionals with an interest or practice base with elderly people, those concerned with policy and management issues and the development of services for older people, as well as those with academic and research interests. Applications will be accepted from graduates in a relevant subject (e.g. medicine, nursing, professions allied to medicine, social sciences). Applicants without a degree, but with vocational qualifications and related work experience, may also be
considered.

The selection of applicants is on the basis of interviews after short-listing by the course director. The criteria for entry are as follows:

* A good Honours degree, usually at second class Honours level or above, or a non-UK qualification recognised by the University as being equivalent to this.
* Work as an employee, or in a voluntary position, of relevance to the course
* Proven competence in English where necessary e.g. an overall score of 6.5 in the IETLS test or a grade of 580 in the TOEFL test (237 computer-based test). Tests or examinations must have been taken no more than three years before the proposed date of entry to the University
* We may also admit non-graduates whose lack of formal qualifications are compensated for relevant professional experience
