The Graduate Diploma in Education (Music) is a one-year, full-time initial teacher education programme specially designed to meet the needs of graduates who wish to become teachers of music in secondary schools. This course is run in conjunction with the Irish World Music Centre.
Objectives
The programme aims to provide students with professional teaching education, the necessary knowledge and capabilities for classroom teaching, fundamental educational theory and the ability to cope with the evolution of change.
Careers
Holders of the Graduate Diploma in Education Music will be equipped to teach music at both senior and junior cycles and will be eligible for inclusion on the open register of the Registration Council for Secondary Teachers.
Semester 1
Preparation for Teaching Practice 1, Preparation for Teaching Practice 2, Pedagogy, Practical Skills of Music, Teaching Practice 1.
Semester 2
Curriculum Studies, Education Policy issues School-based Enquiry (professional Practice), Elective module, Teaching Practice 2.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
As all international students are required to possess sufficient language skills to attend lectures and sit examinations at the University of Limerick, students should be competent to communicate through the medium of English prior to their arrival. Students must have a minimum score of 550 (paper based) or 213(computer based) 80 (internet based) in TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or an IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score in the range of 6.5-7 and not less than 6.0 in any one component.
