Location of Masaryk University
This five-year field of study is completed with the degree of MDDr. The studies are of full-time mode and designed for graduates of secondary schools completed with a school-leaving examination. The first two years of the studies include extended dentistry courses of Preclinical Dentistry, Gnathology, Prosthetic Technology - Materials, and Preventive Dentistry, together with the theoretical general-medicine courses of Medical Physics and Informatics, Biology, Medical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Anatomy, Histology, Physiology, and others.
Successful studies of the theoretical courses necessitate an excellent previous knowledge of natural science-oriented subjects at the grammar-school level. The instruction is carried out in the form of lectures, practicals, and seminars. The practicals in dentistry courses take place at the Department of Stomatology with the use of modern aids - simulators. Preclinical Dentistry is completed with an examination in the 3rd semester.
The third year of studies comprises general-medicine preclinical courses: Pathological Anatomy, Pathological Physiology, Clinical Examination in Internal Medicine and Surgery, and others. It is preparatory to the study of clinical general-medicine courses, especially in the 4th and at the beginning of the 5th years. General-medicine courses are taught in a reduced extent with special attention paid to oral and dental problems. From the 5th semester on, intensive, specialised instruction in dentistry courses is started, which continues until the 10th semester.
The studies of dentistry courses are intensified both in the theoretical and practical aspects, ending up in a 15-week pre-graduation practical training in the 10th semester which emphasises a comprehensive treatment of the patient. The dentistry courses occupy more than 50 % of the whole curricular time. In the course of the studies students also complete 4 blocks of vacation practical training during which they gradually get acquainted with the operation of health-care stomatological facilities, with practical procedures, special materials, and technologies. The studies are completed with advanced (rigorous) state examinations in three dentistry subjects: Therapeutic, Surgical, and Orthopaedic Stomatology.
Graduate of dentistry will be provided by knowledge of:
- understanding of scientific methods, especially principles of measurement of biological functions, evaluation of scientifically documented facts and data analysis.
- constitution, physiology and behavior of healthy and sick people and of influence of nature and social environment to health, if this knowledge is near to dentistry
- structure and function of teeth, oral cavity, jaw and surrounding tissue in health and sickness and of their relation to general health and physical and social strain of patient.
- clinical fields and methods that gives a complex view about anomalies, lesions and diseases of teeth, jaw and surrounding tissues and about preventive, diagnostic and therapeutic processes.
- Educational dental program has to guarantee the students the skills necessary for every activity of prevention, diagnosis and therapy of anomalies and diseases of tooth, oral cavity, jaw and connective tissue and qualification to this activity in harmony with deontology rules.
After finishing of 5-year study of dentistry graduate will be prepared to self-activity, practically and theoretically in dentistry and for beginning of special training preparation to obtain the professional certificate in orthodontics and other specializations in dentistry and/or for PGS studies to receive the Ph.D. degree . Characteristics of professions and institutions where obtained education can be applied: private dental office, public dental service and University clinic.

The basic unit of studies is a course. The amount of study necessary to complete a course is expressed in the assigned number of credits (henceforth ”credit value”). The credit value of each course or group of courses or stage of studies is determined in line with the ECTS principles.
A condition for completion of study in each of the programmes, fields of study or specialisations is the acquisition of credits awarded for completing the courses within a prescribed plan, the overall count of which reaches at least the minimum credit value of studies that is set at thirty times the standard length of studies in a programme expressed in semesters. For the programmes that combine multiple fields of study the minimum credit value is set as weighted average value calculated for each field of study. The weight of the value calculated for the field of study, is defined by the recommended number of credits that represents the field of study in the combination, or is determined in the programme. The credits received during studies in programmes including the lifelong learning programmes held at MU are included into all concurrently studied programmes.
For the purposes of these Rules, courses and groups of courses that are parts of the programmes held at MU, at the MU faculties or at other institutions of higher education, are classified as required, selective, or elective. Required courses are those whose completion as well as the prescribed manner of completion is mandatory. Selective courses are those included in a required group of courses. Required groups of courses are sets of courses from which it is mandatory to complete a certain number of them, including the prescribed manner of completion, or a minimum number of credits. Other courses are elective in relation to the study.
For the purposes of study credit value, only credits for courses the content of which is not identical or substantially overlapping may be recognized. For particular elective courses for which the content of study activities is substantially different each time the course is offered, the Dean of the faculty holding the programme may allow repeating the course more than once during the period of studies, and the accumulation of credits thus acquired.
Examination regulations, assessment and grading
Completion of a course means meeting its requirements in a manner of the following:
- course-unit credit,
- colloquium,
- examination,
- graded course-unit credit.
The due dates of completion of courses are made public by the Examiner or the examination board Chairperson or another academic staff member appointed by the Dean in IS MU at least two weeks prior to the beginning of examination period. The number of dates of course completion must comply the type and form of course completion, number of enrolled students and course characteristic resulting from the requirements for course completion.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

The admission procedure is an administrative process set to determine whether or not an applicant shall be admitted to studies in an accredited degree programme. The admission procedure begins with the submission of an application to an MU faculty and proceeds in compliance with the Higher Education Act and Masaryk University Statutes. The admission procedure ends with a decision on admission or denial of admission to studies in the degree programme and field of study listed in the entrance application. Should the applicant withdraw the application or fail to complete the requirements imposed by the admission procedure (in particular the entrance examinations), all fees associated with the admission procedure are considered non-refundable.
The qualification, skill and qualities need for admission to Masaryk University vary from programme to programme. For full details of entry requirements visit the faculty/programme web pages. However, the minimum entry requirements for degree study are as follow:
- International qualifications which are equivalent to International Baccalaureate or A level qualification (for Bachelor’s programme), Bachelor’s degree certificate (for Master’s Programme) - the University requires all students to provide proof of qualifications (certified copy of the diploma by the authorised university office or by a notary public official) accompanied by the final transcript of records. Diplomas and final transcripts of records whose original language is not English or Czech should be accompanied by an official English language translation, stamped and signed by a translating company or an authorised university office;
- English language qualifications - you are required to have a sufficient command of English language to enable you to follow the course without linguistic difficulties. To prove your proficiency in English we ask for one of the following:
- TOEFL – 550 for paper-based, 213 for computer-based, or 79 for Internet-based tests;
- Cambridge IELTS written version - 6.5, CAE - B grade, CPE - C grade;
- or other internationally recognized certificates. (This doesn’t apply to native speakers and holders of a prior degree taught in English).
- Curriculum Vitae - a summary of education, relevant job experience, skills etc.
- Statement of purpose - document outlining the applicant's intellectual history and presenting his/her motivation in applying to the certain programme.
- Recommendation letter – you may also be required to provide the reference from your university teacher.

Accreditation
Masaryk University is a public university-type institution of higher education offering:
- accredited degree programmes at the Bachelor’s, Master’s and doctoral levels in on-site, combined and distance modes of study;
- advanced (“rigorozní”) state examinations for graduates of Master’s degree programmes holding the title of “magistr” (Mgr.);
- lifelong education programmes.
An accredited degree programme provides a higher education that concludes with a state examination and the awarding of a degree and accompanying title (the most common being Bc., Mgr., Ing. and Ph.D.). There are three types (levels) of accredited degree programmes, Bachelor’s, Master’s and doctoral, following after one another in that order. In accordance with the Higher Education Act, Master’s programmes that do not follow a Bachelor’s programme may be accredited and offered, though only on an exceptional basis.
Accredited degree programmes always include one or more fields of study. Afield of study is a coherent academic discipline or branch of knowledge. The field of study is delimited by a set of courses and conditions for the creation of a study plan. Fields of study may be further divided into specializations in specific areas (usually on the basis of the student’s taking a certain block of courses).
