As a pre-clinical course, the MSc offers graduates an opportunity for gaining in-depth knowledge of theories and practice in clinical psychological disorders and treatment approaches. A 15-day placement experience enables students to tailor their direction of knowledge according to their specific needs within clinical psychology. This course does not guarantee a place in clinical psychology training but presents a thorough grounding for individuals.

The course offers graduates a breadth of knowledge of the theories behind clinical psychological disorders together with comprehensive case histories and therapeutic approaches for each condition presented.

The duration of the MSc course is 12 months. The course assessment includes a reflective piece of work and thorough literature search dissertation at the end of the placement experience, which takes place towards the end of the year.

Students normally enrol on the MSc course. However, it is possible that after completing the taught subjects students do not proceed to placement and dissertation, receiving a PG Dip award. The duration of the taught subjects is nine months.

The nine month PG Dip course enables students to upgrade previous knowledge in terms of their academic standard without the practical placement and final dissertation. This may be more suited for those with academic intentions but who do not wish to apply their knowledge in any of the placement settings.
