Christie's Education Hong Kong: Introduction to the Modern and Contemporary Chinese Art Market
A new three-day course exploring the Chinese Modern and Contemporary Art Market is now available in Hong Kong. It will be held at the same time as the Christie's Hong Kong Spring Auction Sales and aims to equip collectors with the tools to navigate the growing market in contemporary art. The course will start by exploring the origins of modern art movements in Europe and America and will then examine Chinese painting in the traditional ink and then oil painting modes in the 20th Century. Through this the scene will be set for exploring the Chinese avant-garde as part of an international artistic phenomenon at the dawn of the 21st century. This will be followed by an examination of how the market in Asia has evolved. Finally practical issues such as financial and legal matters will also be introduced.
London is a major centre for the international art market; the gallery scene is one of the most exciting in the world. Hundreds of artists live in the city and shows of new work can be found nearly every week. Included in the fees for all our courses are visits to specialist collections and private galleries in London, and study visits to private houses and historic centres such as Oxford and Cambridge. We also include in our overall fee two international study trips overseas and have visited Venice, Berlin, Paris, Rome, Cologne, New York and many other art-world centres in the past.
